Your dental health support worker
Dental health support workers (DHSW) are attached to some education establishments, and provide the main dental contact point for teachers, parents and school nurses. The DHSW will support you and your child/school with:
- information on the Childsmile programme
- providing consent
- toothbrushing.
Your dental nurse
Dental nurses come to some schools and nurseries twice a year, to apply fluoride varnish. They give your child aftercare instructions. The dental nurse can give your child information on:
- how teeth grow and develop
- healthy food and drinks
- toothbrushing.
