About Us

Childsmile is a national programme designed to improve the oral health of children in Scotland and reduce inequalities both in dental health and access to dental services.

It is funded by the Scottish Government and has three main elements:

Pink tile with a pink flourish in the top tight hand corner. In the centre of the green flourish is a tooth icon. The word Toothbrushing contained within the tile.
Green tile with a green flourish in the top tight hand corner. In the centre of the green flourish is a tooth icon. The words community and practice are contained within the tile.
Purple tile with a purple flourish in the top tight hand corner. In the centre of the purple flourish is a tooth icon with a tick. The words Fluoride Varnish are contained within the tile.

Since 2011, all elements have been delivered in all health board areas throughout Scotland.

Reducing oral health inequalities is a key outcome for Childsmile

Childsmile is a multi-faceted, complex, public health intervention. The whole dental team, and partners, should be aware of the different components of the programme, to ensure a coordinated approach and maximise opportunities for children to benefit.
