From the moment their first tooth appears, brush your baby’s teeth and gums at least twice daily, in the morning and last thing at night. Use toothpaste containing at least 1000 parts per million (ppm) fluoride. For more information visit Childsmile Toothbrushing.

Every three and four-year-old attending nursery in Scotland, whether it be a local authority, voluntary or private nursery is eligible to be offered:

  • free daily supervised toothbrushing in their nursery
  • free dental packs, which contain a toothbrush, toothpaste of at least 1000 parts per million (ppm) fluoride and oral health messages
  • oral health education.

There are several different routes through which the Childsmile programme provides FREE resources for families. Every child is provided with a dental pack containing a toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste containing at least 1000 parts per million (ppm) fluoride, on at least six occasions, by the age of five. Dependent on the age of your child, you may receive your FREE toothbrushing pack from your Health Visitor, Dentist, or from your child’s Nursery or School.

There is also a FREE Childsmile toothbrush available in the Baby Box and from your local Childminders. Your local Childsmile Coordinator can provide you with more information.

You can purchase additional toothpaste from AMS INTERNATIONAL who supplies the resources for the Childsmile Toothbrushing program.
